  • Honorary Award Recipient of the DFL
  • Former editor-in-chief of the “kicker”

Karl-Heinz Heimann was posthumously named as an Ehrenpreisträger (Honorary Award Recipient) shortly after his death on 13 July 2010 aged 85. He was editor-in-chief of kicker from 1968 to 1988, and was subsequently publisher of the football magazine until the end of 2009. Starting in 1952, he spent a total of 57 years working mainly in positions of responsibility for kicker, having started his career in journalism at the Aachener Nachrichten newspaper. At the helm of kicker, Karl-Heinz Heimann was instrumental in the magazine’s strategic realignment at the time. Consistently objective, reliable and informed analysis and commentary gained him a high reputation – including among many major figures within the sport, some of whom were his friends. His “In the spotlight” column, which ran for over 40 years, became a cult.
