Helmut Hack

  • DFL Honorary Member
  • Former 2nd Vice President DFL e.V.
  • Former DFB Vice President

Helmut Hack, born in 1949, was appointed as an Ehrenangehöriger (Honorary Member) of the DFL at the 2019 General Assembly when he stepped down from his duties. Until then, Helmut Hack had spent three years as Second Vice President of the DFL and Chairman of the Licensing Committee, and was Vice President of the German Football Association (DFB). He was first elected to the Executive Board of the former Ligaverband (now the Executive Committee of the DFL) in 2010. He concentrated mainly on Bundesliga 2. At SpVgg Greuther Fürth, he served as President until standing down in mid-2018, and as Managing Director of the spun-off SpVgg Greuther Fürth GmbH & Co. KGaA from 2003. Helmut Hack was a driving force in the merger of the renowned SpVgg Fürth (Bundesliga champions in 1914, 1926 and 1929) and his home-town club TSV Vestenbergsgreuth in 1996. As a native of Vestenbergsgreuth, he became Chairman of the club in 1984. TSV pulled off one of the great DFB-Pokal upsets by beating FC Bayern München 1:0 in 1994.

Continuity was also a feature of Helmut Hack’s professional career. He worked for 50 years in roles ranging from a business apprenticeship to Managing Director – entirely at the tea specialist, the Martin Bauer Group. At this company, as at SpVgg Greuther Fürth and in German professional football, Helmut Hack was instrumental in achieving huge progress.
