Harald Strutz, born in Mainz in 1950, was elected as a DFL Ehrenangehöriger (Honorary Member) in 2016. He was President of 1. FSV Mainz 05 for nearly 30 years from 1988 to 2017, longer than any other club supremo in German professional football, before being made an Honorary Member there in 2019. His father Walter had previously run the club between 1951 and 1956. Harald Strutz served on the Advisory Board of the German Football Association (DFB) from 1992, and on the DFB League Committee from 1996. When German professional football first became independent at the end of 2000, Harald Strutz was on the Executive Board of the Ligaverband (now the Executive Committee of the DFL). He was also Second Vice President for many years until 2016, as well as Chairman of the Licensing Committee. Until the end of 2016, he was also a member of the DFB’s Executive Committee, and served on its Executive Board from 1996. He became an Honorary Member of the DFB in 2019.

After taking his school-leaving exams, Harald Strutz studied law in Mainz, where he has worked as a lawyer since 1978. From 1998 to 2019, he was an FDP member of Mainz City Council. Harald Strutz was a successful athlete in the 1970s. He was a multiple German national triple-jump runner-up and youth champion, and set a junior world record of 16.21 metres.
