24 March 2022 – The DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga today set the exact schedule for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 from Matchday 31 to the end of the current 2021-22 season as well as for the 2022 relegation play-offs. Matches now confirmed include “Der Klassiker” between current league leader FC Bayern München and second-placed Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 31 (Saturday, 23 April, 6:30 p.m. CEST).

Matchday 32 will see the derby between Dortmund and VfL Bochum 1848 (Saturday, 30 April, 3:30 p.m. CEST). Other matches will include Bayer 04 Leverkusen versus Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Mönchengladbach versus RB Leipzig. Because 1 May 2022 (Labour Day/“Tag der Arbeit”) is a Sunday, there will be no matches that day in keeping with the wishes of the security authorities. This applies to Matchday 32 for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 and means that there will be some special constellations in the schedule. Because provisions are made for a suitable recovery period after international matches for Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig, the two clubs that are still playing in the UEFA Europa League, and the Sunday (1 May) after the first legs of the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League (which take place on Thursday, 28 April) is ruled out as a matchday, the Bundesliga matches for both clubs have been scheduled for Monday, 2 May (8:30 p.m. CEST). Should one or both of the clubs fail to reach the Europa League semi-finals, the DFL will reschedule the relevant match involving Eintracht Frankfurt (against Bayer 04 Leverkusen) and/or RB Leipzig (against Borussia Mönchengladbach) to Friday, 29 April (8:30 p.m. CEST). These arrangements have been agreed to with the four clubs concerned.

In Bundesliga 2, there will be a few direct clashes in the race for promotion on the matchdays that have now been scheduled. On Matchday 31, FC Schalke 04 will face SV Werder Bremen (Saturday, 23 April, 1:30 p.m. CEST), and FC St. Pauli will play SV Darmstadt 98 (Saturday, 23 April, 8:30 p.m. CEST on). Due to the fact that no matches will be held on Sunday, 1 May, there will be five games on Matchday 32 on Friday, 29 April at 6:30 p.m. CEST, including an encounter between FC St. Pauli and 1. FC Nürnberg. FC Schalke 04 and FC St. Pauli will meet on Matchday 33 (Saturday, 7 May, 8:30 p.m. CEST), while 1. FC Nürnberg will play FC Schalke 04 on Matchday 34 (Sunday, 15 May, 3:30 p.m. CEST).

In addition, the dates for the 2022 relegation play-offs have been set:

Bundesliga – Bundesliga 2:

  • First leg on Thursday, 19 May 2022: 16th-placed team in the Bundesliga v. 3rd-placed team in Bundesliga 2 (8:30 p.m. CEST)
  • Second leg on Monday, 23 May 2022: 3rd-placed team in Bundesliga 2 v. 16th-placed team in the Bundesliga (8:30 p.m. CEST)

Bundesliga 2 – 3. Liga:

  • First leg on Friday 20 May 2022: 3rd-placed team in 3. Liga v. 16th-placed team in Bundesliga 2 (8:30 p.m. CEST)
  • Second leg on Tuesday, 24 May 2022: 16th-placed team in Bundesliga 2 v. 3rd-placed team in 3. Liga (8:30 p.m. CEST)

In the event that a club is due to play in the relegation play-offs and also reaches the DFB-Pokal final (Saturday, 21 May 2022), the relevant first leg will be moved to Wednesday, 18 May, and the second leg to Wednesday, 25 May 2022. If such an eventuality does arise, the DFL will set the kick-off times for these two relegation play-off matches in question in good time.
