Christian Seifert

  • Honorary Member of the DFL
  • Former DFL CEO and Speaker of the DFL Executive Committee

Christian Seifert was born in 1969 in Rastatt, Baden-Württemberg. He initially worked for MGM MediaGruppe München and MTV Networks and was a board member at KarstadtQuelle New Media AG. In early 2005, he joined the DFL, succeeding Wilfried Straub as CEO. In the autumn of 2020, Christian Seifert announced that he would not be extending his contract, which was due to expire in 2022, and left his role at the end of 2021.

By that time, he had shaped an impressive era characterized by the marked development of German professional football. New facets were constantly added to the original focus areas of organising and marketing the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 – also because Christian Seifert was quick to see new challenges looming and initiated necessary – often innovative – measures in order to create the conditions for success both in the present and the future. The DFL evolved into a global media company and the only top league organisation to cover the entire value chain itself: organising match operations, producing the TV signal for all matches, creating content for partners and its own platforms, collecting match data and marketing media rights worldwide. Since that time, the DFL Group has included five subsidiaries and a number of minority interests as well as the DFL Foundation, the activities of which seek to take account of football’s increased social responsibility.

During the 2022 General Assembly in Dortmund, Christian Seifert was elected as an Honorary Member of the DFL.
