23 October 2023 – Bundesliga International and Hungarian broadcaster Network4 have agreed an early extension of their broadcast contract, prolonging the collaboration for an additional four years, until the end of the 2028-29 season.

Network4 retains exclusive rights to more than 300 Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches per season, with rights to broadcast in both Hungarian and English language. The deal also includes the rights to the German Supercup, German football’s season opener between league and DFB Cup winner, as well as the relegation play-off matches, the outcome of which determines the final Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 teams every year.

The Bundesliga will remain a core feature of NET4+, Network4’s state-of-the-art OTT platform, with all games available every matchday. In addition, 4-5 matches per week will be shown on ARENA4, Hungary’s premier linear sports channel, and on MATCH4, its sister channel.

The current agreement, signed in 2021, will continue to run until its conclusion at the end of the 2024-25 season, at which point the new deal will automatically begin. The early renewal comes as a result of a mutually beneficial partnership that has resulted in not only strong coverage from live matches, but has been demonstrated in the amount of localised shoulder programming that accompanies each matchday. Furthermore, the two companies share an innovation-focused vision, with the goal always to offer the fan the best possible viewing experience. Since the beginning of the partnership, both organisations have worked towards this goal, with Network4 becoming the first broadcaster in Europe to introduce the “Interactive Feed” to its OTT customers, as well as bringing the Bundesliga’s latest TV product “Goal Arena” to fans in Hungary. In Network4 we have a fantastic partner that shares this vision, and a relationship built on mutual trust that is dedicated to offering the best possible experience for Hungarian fans.

Bundesliga International Chief Marketing Officer Peer Naubert said: “Alongside end-to-end action, goals, and excitement on the pitch, innovation has long been the hallmark of the Bundesliga. We are always looking for new ways to update and evolve our products based on the wants and needs of the fans around the world, and the Bundesliga’s Interactive Feed and Goal Arena are two more great examples of this.

In Network4 we have a fantastic partner that shares this vision, and a relationship built on mutual trust that is dedicated to offering the best possible experience for Hungarian fans. This long-term extension is another clear signal of the quality of the Bundesliga product and yet further reinforcement of our growth trajectory.

Network4 Chairman of the Board Andras Borsány-Gyenes said: “When we first partnered with Bundesliga International, our goal was to take the Bundesliga broadcast experience to the next level. I am happy to say that ARENA4 and NET4+, together with Bundesliga International, wrote history by showing almost all the Bundesliga matches live in Hungary, which is both unprecedented and a massive technical feat in itself. Such advances in broadcast technology as the Interactive Feed and Goal Arena took the Bundesliga experience one step forward, providing sophisticated OTT experience for the Hungarian viewers. We are proud to continue our cooperation with Bundesliga into the future.”
