An outlook on SportsInnovation 2022

27 April 2022 – The purpose of SportsInnovation 2022 is to highlight future trends which are of interest to sports institutions, the media and sport venues. On 11-12 May, around 1,000 visitors and more than 50 exhibiting companies will participate in the one-of-a-kind sports technology event at the MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA in Düsseldorf. But the most unique and outstanding feature of the event are the “innovation games”: three football matches that will showcase the latest technologies live.

Following the official opening and a keynote address by DFL CEO Donata Hopfen, these matches will take place during the first day, each under a specific heading: “Broadcast & Content”, “Sports Performance & Technology”, and “Fan Experience & Stadium”. Every match will be accompanied by experts who will explain the featured technologies as it is being used. In the afternoon, the first “SportsInnovation Award” will be presented, highlighting the products and services offered by leading start-ups from the sport technologies sector. The first day will culminate in a get-together on board the passenger ship “MS Rhein-Energie”.

Experts on stage will describe and explain the future technologies showcased in the Innovation Games - as was the case at the SportsInnovation 2018.

The conference programme on the second day is a new feature introduced since SportsInnovation 2018. First-rate national and international speakers and panellists will be sharing insights on the stage, located in the grandstand of the stadium. Speakers come from a broad range of backgrounds, representing sport leagues, clubs, and the business and science communities, among others. For an overview of the speakers and the entire programme please visit the SportsInnovation 2022 website. On both days of the event, the business sectors of the stadium will serve as expo spaces where exhibitors from 17 countries will present their cutting-edge tech.

SportsInnovation 2022 is organised by the Düsseldorf venue operator and event specialist D.LIVE and hosted jointly with DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga and the sport business conference organiser “Spielmacher”. The inaugural SportsInnovation in 2018 attracted 47 exhibitors and more than 900 guests from 21 countries. Originally planned to be held every two years, the subsequent SportsInnovation scheduled for 2020 had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the 2022 edition will be the second SportsInnovation, once more bringing the future of sports technology together.
