Goal or no goal? It is the most important question in football – and one in which the Bundesliga has enjoyed the greatest possible clarity since the 2015-16 season, thanks to the introduction of goal-line technology from the British provider Hawk-Eye. The system sends a signal to the referee in less than one second if it recognises that a goal has been scored. A special watch vibrates and displays a message for the referee: Goal! Fans are also informed via TV recordings that show whether the ball crossed the line completely or not. The Hawk-Eye software uses the camera images generated to capture the exact position of the ball, including in situations where the game situation is confusing for the referee or because of adverse weather conditions.
