Joint initiative in Bundesliga 2 planned for matchday 2: #SleevesUp
29 July 2021 – A joint initiative is planned for the forthcoming second matchday in Bundesliga 2: The idea is that the players will have the right sleeve on their shirts rolled up when the teams come onto the pitch. This is intended to raise awareness of the importance of vaccinations in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Matchday 2 in Bundesliga 2 begins on Friday (6:30 p.m. CEST).
A number of Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs have also championed higher vaccination uptake recently through creative vaccination programmes in conjunction with, for example, matches and training sessions.
The Initiative Profisport Deutschland (IPD) – an association of the four largest sports leagues in Germany – has also offered to help more than 80 towns, cities and municipalities to implement additional vaccination opportunities alongside sporting events. With this initiative, the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga with the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the LIQUI MOLY Handball-Bundesliga and 2. Handball-Bundesliga as well as the PENNY DEL (Deutsche Eishockey Liga, German Ice Hockey League) together with their respective clubs want to create more opportunities for increasing vaccination uptake in Germany and so support efforts to tackle the coronavirus pandemic. In total, the IPD encompasses 107 clubs in more than 80 towns, cities and municipalities throughout Germany.
